BJP National Secretary Muralidhar Rao stated today that Shri Manmohan Singh for whom people had huge expectations for his celebrated expertise on economic affairs has proved the most incompetent in handling the economy of the country. Expressing concern over the pathetic situation of the country’s economy, he said that the situation has gone out of control and the UPA government failed completely to show anything positive regarding the same.

He explained about the current economic situation. Trade deficit is spiraling. Both agriculture and manufacturing sectors are facing huge infrastructure deficits. Areas in which we had success stories like telecom, power, national highways etc have become areas of failure. The once appreciated economic rise seems doubtful. Investors are scared as continuous appeals to Prime Minister as well Finance Minister have gone unheard. Today small time investors find gold more reliable than market products.

Poverty reduction rate has come down in the past years of UPA rule. Inflation has already started pushing millions into the poverty bracket. The agriculture sector which accounts for more than 50 percent of employment in the country has turned out to be a sector of complete government neglect. The suicides of farmers have risen across the years. Shri Rao said that the government is forcibly displacing people from productive to unproductive sectors. The industry as well is suffering due to reduced energy production. Not only that foreign investors are exploring other avenues, but even domestic industrialists are going for investing outside the country.

Shri Muralidhar Rao pointed out that this pathetic situation reflects the failure of the government and poor governance. The country is able to survive only because of high level of savings and remittances (which account to 55 billion dollar per annum).

The latest declaration of RBI, the so called ‘booster’, evoked no enthusiasm among any one. The failure is completely due to the incapability of the Prime Minister Shri Manmohan Singh and he should stop passing the buck. It is highly risky for the country to afford him even a day more. BJP finds that sooner the Prime Minister realizes this, the country will be saved.
