BJP National Secretary Shri Muralidhar Rao today addressed a press conference in Hyderabad calling attention to the issue of Telengana requested all representatives of Andhra Pradesh both at centre and state to note vote for Shri Pranab Mukherjee in the upcoming presidential elections.

He pointed out that in 2004, the Congress won both the Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections and formed Governments at the Centre as well as in the state.  The TRS also joined the Government, both at the Centre and in the state and both the Congress and TRS promised for the creation of a separate Telengana state. The National Common Minimum Programme (NCMP) announced by UPA in 2004 also included the issue of Telengana. It stated that  “The UPA Government will consider the demand for the formation of a Telangana state at an appropriate time after due consideration and consensus”.  Subsequently in the Presidential address to the Joint Session of Parliament on June 7, 2004, mention was made that “the Government will consider the demand for the formation of aTelanganaStateat an appropriate time after due consultations”.

The UPA Government accordingly constituted a three-Member Committee of the Cabinet Ministers under the Chairmanship of Shri Pranab Mukherjee in November, 2004 with Dr. Raghuvansh Prasad Singh and Shri Dayanidhi Maran as Members.

But to the dismay of the people of Telengana, said Shri Rao, even after many years of its formation the sub-committee under the leadership of Shri Pranab Mukherjee failed to make any progress on the issue and is still continuing with a stalemate situation. The only result of the inaction and inefficiency of the committee was the loss of precious lives and property. Shri Pranab Mukherjee, occupying senior positions in both the UPA governments and having a Congress government in Andhra Pradesh could have used hus good offices and capacities to resolve the issue.

Considering the state of suffering Andhra Pradesh has been pushed into all these years by not being able to derive a solution, BJP requests every representatives of Andhra Pradesh in state assembly and Parliament to not vote for Shri Pranab Mukherjee in the upcoming presidential elections.
