TIRUNELVELI: “Had Annadurai come back to life, he would have joined Bharatiya Janata Party , not the DMK,” thundered BJP national general secretary P Muralidhar Rao as he hit out at the DMK for its family politics. The BJP alone could ensure the governance that Rajaraja Cholan and Rajendra Cholan gave this state, he said. The BJP leader was addressing an event organised by the party at which workers from various political parties led by former AIADMK min ister Nainar Nagendran were to join it. “You will have a bright future in Tamil Nadu in the BJP,” Rao told Nagendran, who recently joined the party , at the gathering got up at Jawahar grounds.
Terming DMK working president M K Stalin weak in the absence of an active M Karunanidhi by his side, Rao took potshots at Stalin for aligning with Rahul Gandhi.”He (Stalin) should not forget that Rahul has been a failure in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Gujarat,” he said. AIADMK and DMK, which ruled the state from 1967 to 2017, have given nothing but corruption, he said. “I dare Stalin to see who and which party is following the words of Tiruvalluvar. Only BJP and the corruption-free leaders in the party are following Thirukkural,” he added.
Nagendran, a minister in the AIADMK cabinet from 2001 to 2006, said, “I see MGR in Modi.” Explaining why he joined the BJP, he said that after MGR and Jayalalithaa AIADMK did not know who to follow. However he would not comment on the party.
The former minister also called MGR a visionary .”When puratchi thalaivar founded the AIADMK in 1972 he first hoisted a lotus flag be fore “two leaves” became the party symbol. He knew the lotus would come to power in Tamil Nadu after two-leaves, he added. Other leaders including Union minister Pon Radhakrishnan and state president Tamilisai Soundararajan also took on the DMK and Congress, but went soft on the AIADMK.
As Muralidhar Rao came on stage the orchestra played the song “Naan Ungal Veetu Pillai” that originally was picturised on former chief minister MGR and is still played in AIADMK meetings. The next few lines came as a shock for the crowd, especially women, as it said “Naan sellukindra paathai Narendra Modi Kaatum Paathai”.
While this was appreciated by BJP leaders including Tamilisai Soundararajan the crowd turned silent. “In BJP everyone is Modi’s child,” she said.
